PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date: 10/16/2026

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL – [October 16, 2026] – Milk Bank WGL today announced the appointment of Dr. Angela Lang, DNP, RN, IBCLC, as its first Clinical Director. The new role comes as hospitals throughout the region increasingly rely on donor milk as a standard of care for premature and medically fragile infants.

Dr. Lang is a doctorally prepared nurse leader and board-certified lactation consultant who has built her career around transforming maternal-infant care by translating evidence into practice. Most recently, she served as Global Director of Medical Affairs and Education at Medela, where she led a team of scientists, clinicians, and educators in developing evidence-based education, protocols, and clinical tools for healthcare providers. Her experience also includes leadership roles in nursing education, public health, professional development, and clinical practice at major Chicago and Milwaukee health systems, as well as university teaching and peer-reviewed publications.

Throughout her career, Dr. Lang has stayed close to the bedside. She continues to practice as a lactation consultant at a Chicagoland hospital, giving her a firsthand view of the families and clinical teams the milk bank serves. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she completed graduate clinical nurse specialist preparation in maternal-infant health, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

At Milk Bank WGL, Dr. Lang will serve as the primary clinical resource for the physicians, nurses, dietitians, and lactation consultants who use donor milk to care for vulnerable infants. She will also lead clinical education initiatives for hospitals, equipping teams with tools and resources to protect each mother’s own milk supply while using donor human milk as a bridge or replacement when needed.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Lang to Milk Bank WGL,” said Summer Kelly, Executive Director of Milk Bank WGL. “She brings deep expertise in human milk science, lactation care, and maternal-child health nursing, along with a proven record of turning research into education that changes practice. As donor milk use continues to grow, Dr. Lang will make sure the neonatal teams we serve have the most current, evidence-based education to help the smallest babies thrive.”

The creation of the Clinical Director role marks a significant milestone for Milk Bank WGL and reflects the region’s rapid integration of donor milk into standard neonatal care.

“Donor human milk is proof of what people can do for each other,” said Dr. Lang. “It is an evidence-based intervention that saves the lives of fragile infants in the NICU, and it begins with one family’s generosity becoming another family’s hope. I’m honored to help carry that gift from the donor’s hands to every baby who needs it.”
